Basaglar

Before taking this medicine

Do not use Basaglar during an episode of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), or if you are allergic to insulin glargine or any other ingredient in Basaglar. Low blood sugar can be life-threatening. More frequent blood glucose checks may be needed if your insulin treatment, other glucose-lowering medicines, meal pattern or physical activity changes. Extra monitoring is also needed if you have kidney or liver impairment, or do not recognise the warning signs of low blood sugar. Changes to your insulin treatment, injection site or injection method should be made under close medical supervision. Never share a Basaglar pen with anyone, even if the needle is changed. Check the insulin label before each injection to avoid mix-ups. Basaglar can cause severe, life-threatening allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis. If a severe allergic reaction occurs, stop using Basaglar and seek immediate medical help. It can also cause dangerously low potassium levels; people at risk may need potassium monitoring. Using Basaglar with thiazolidinediones (TZDs) can cause fluid retention and heart failure. Your prescriber should monitor for signs of heart failure and review treatment if it occurs.
