About Clarinex
Overview
Clarinex contains desloratadine, an antihistamine. It is used to relieve nasal and non-nasal symptoms of seasonal and year-round allergic rhinitis. It also relieves itching and reduces the number and size of hives in chronic idiopathic urticaria, a condition involving ongoing hives with no known cause. It works by blocking H1 receptors, where histamine acts in the body.
What it treats
- Seasonal allergic rhinitis: relief of nasal and non-nasal allergy symptoms. - Perennial allergic rhinitis: relief of nasal and non-nasal allergy symptoms that occur year-round. - Chronic idiopathic urticaria: relief of itching and reduction in the number and size of hives.
Safety information
Side effects
Common side effects include sore throat, dry mouth, muscle pain, tiredness, sleepiness and painful menstrual periods. Allergic reactions have been reported, including rash, itching, hives, swelling, difficulty breathing and anaphylaxis (a severe allergic reaction). Stop taking Clarinex immediately and contact a doctor if an allergic reaction occurs. Seek emergency medical help for difficulty breathing or signs of anaphylaxis.

If symptoms are severe or getting worse quickly, seek emergency care rather than waiting.
Before taking this medicine
Do not take Clarinex if you are allergic to desloratadine, loratadine or any of its ingredients. Tell your prescriber if you have kidney or liver impairment, as your dose may need adjustment. Stop taking Clarinex immediately if an allergic reaction occurs. Reported reactions include rash, itching, hives, swelling, difficulty breathing and anaphylaxis, a severe allergic reaction.

Storage
