About Crysvita
Overview
Crysvita (burosumab) is an antibody medicine given by injection under the skin. It treats X-linked hypophosphatemia (XLH) in adults and children aged 6 months and older. It also treats FGF23-related low blood phosphate in tumor-induced osteomalacia (TIO) in adults and children aged 2 years and older when the associated phosphaturic mesenchymal tumor cannot be located or completely removed by surgery. It blocks a protein called FGF23, helping the kidneys retain phosphate and increasing active vitamin D levels in the blood.
What it treats
- X-linked hypophosphatemia (XLH) in adults and children aged 6 months and older. - FGF23-related low blood phosphate in tumor-induced osteomalacia (TIO), associated with phosphaturic mesenchymal tumors that cannot be located or completely removed by surgery, in adults and children aged 2 years and older.
Safety information
Side effects
Common side effects vary by the condition being treated and the patient’s age. In children with XLH, they include fever, injection site reactions, cough, vomiting, pain in the arms or legs, headache, tooth abscesses and tooth decay. In adults with XLH, they include back pain, headache, tooth infections, restless legs syndrome, decreased vitamin D levels, dizziness, constipation, muscle spasms and increased blood phosphorus. In patients with TIO, common side effects include tooth abscesses, muscle spasms, dizziness, constipation, injection site reactions, rash and headache. Contact a doctor promptly for serious allergic reactions or severe injection site reactions. These require stopping Crysvita and appropriate medical treatment. Increased blood phosphorus can raise the risk of calcium deposits in the kidneys and may require your prescriber to interrupt or adjust treatment. Increased blood calcium has also been reported. Patients at high risk of increased blood calcium need blood calcium and parathyroid hormone monitoring before and during treatment.

If symptoms are severe or getting worse quickly, seek emergency care rather than waiting.
Before taking this medicine
Do not use Crysvita if you are taking oral phosphate or active vitamin D medicines such as calcitriol, paricalcitol, doxercalciferol or calcifediol; if your blood phosphorus is within or above the normal range for your age; or if you have severe kidney impairment or end-stage kidney disease. Crysvita can cause high blood phosphorus, which increases the risk of calcium deposits in the kidneys. Your prescriber may need to interrupt treatment or reduce the dose based on your blood phosphorus level. Blood calcium can also rise. If you are at high risk of high blood calcium, calcium and parathyroid hormone levels should be checked before and during treatment. Serious allergic reactions or severe injection-site reactions require stopping Crysvita and appropriate medical treatment.

Storage
Store in the original carton below 25°C, protected from light, unless the pack states refrigeration. Do not freeze. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
