About Dificid
Overview
Dificid is a prescription antibiotic containing fidaxomicin, available as film-coated tablets. It treats diarrhea associated with C. difficile and should only be used when this bacterial infection is confirmed or strongly suspected. Fidaxomicin works by acting against the bacteria responsible for the infection.
What it treats
Diarrhea caused by C. difficile in adults and children aged 6 months and older, when the infection is confirmed or strongly suspected.

Side effects
Common side effects in adults include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, bleeding in the digestive tract, anemia (low red blood cell levels), and neutropenia (low levels of a type of white blood cell). In children, common side effects include fever, abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, increased liver enzyme levels, and rash. Contact a doctor promptly if you have bleeding in the digestive tract. Allergic reactions, including swelling, difficulty breathing, itching, and rash, have been reported. Stop taking Dificid and seek urgent medical help if you develop a severe allergic reaction, particularly swelling or difficulty breathing.

If symptoms are severe or getting worse quickly, seek emergency care rather than waiting.
Before taking this medicine
Do not take Dificid if you have a known allergy to fidaxomicin or any other ingredient in the medicine. Allergic reactions, including swelling, difficulty breathing, itching and rash, have been reported. Stop taking Dificid if a severe allergic reaction occurs. Dificid should only be used for diarrhea caused by a confirmed or strongly suspected C. difficile infection. It is not expected to treat other types of infection because very little fidaxomicin is absorbed into the bloodstream. Restricting its use helps reduce the development of drug-resistant bacteria. Safety and effectiveness have not been established in children younger than 6 months.

Storage
Store below 25°C in a dry place, in the original pack, away from direct light and moisture. Do not keep it in a bathroom. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
