What is the most important information I should know about ESTRING (an estrogen hormone)?
Estrogens increase the chance of getting cancer of the uterus.
Report any unusual vaginal bleeding right away while you are using ESTRING. Vaginal bleeding after menopause may be a warning sign of cancer of the uterine (womb). Your healthcare provider should check any unusual vaginal bleeding to find out the cause.
Do not use estrogens with or without progestins to prevent heart disease, heart attacks, strokes, or dementia.
Using estrogens with or without progestins may increase your chance of getting heart attacks, strokes, breast cancer, and blood clots. Using estrogens with or without progestins may increase your risk of dementia, based on a study of women age 65 years or older.
You and your healthcare provider should talk regularly about whether you still need treatment with ESTRING.
About Estring
Overview
Estring is a vaginal ring containing estradiol, an estrogen. It treats moderate to severe symptoms caused by thinning of the vaginal tissues after menopause, including dryness, burning, itching and pain during sex. It also treats related lower urinary tract symptoms, such as an urgent need to urinate and painful urination. The ring works by steadily releasing estradiol inside the vagina.

Safety information
Side effects
Commonly reported side effects with Estring include headache, vaginal discharge, genital yeast infection, vaginal inflammation or discomfort, back or joint pain, abdominal pain, nausea and trouble sleeping. Diarrhea, indigestion, genital itching, painful urination and urinary leakage were also reported. Seek medical attention for chest pain or fainting. Contact a doctor if you develop vaginal bleeding or leg swelling. These events were reported in Estring studies.

Before taking this medicine
Do not use Estring if you have: - Unexplained abnormal genital bleeding. - Known or suspected breast cancer, or a history of breast cancer. - A known or suspected estrogen-dependent tumour. - A blood clot in a deep vein or the lungs, or a history of either. - An active or recent (within the past year) blood clot in an artery, such as a stroke or heart attack. - Liver disease or impaired liver function. - An allergy to any ingredient in Estring. Do not use Estring if you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant.
Using Estring
Dosing

Storage
Store below 25°C in the original pack, away from direct light, heat and moisture. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
