Jardiance

Before taking this medicine

Do not take Jardiance if you are allergic to empagliflozin or any of its ingredients. Serious allergic reactions, including angioedema (swelling beneath the skin), have occurred. Stop taking it and seek prompt medical help if an allergic reaction occurs. Conditions requiring caution include: - Type 1 diabetes or other risk factors for ketoacidosis. Ketone monitoring may be needed. Ketoacidosis must be assessed regardless of blood glucose levels; Jardiance should be stopped if it is suspected. - Reduced kidney function, older age or use of loop diuretics. Fluid levels and kidney function should be checked before treatment, with monitoring for fluid depletion during treatment. - Urinary or genital infections, including serious infections. Seek immediate medical assessment for pain, tenderness, redness or swelling around the genitals or the area between the genitals and anus, together with fever or feeling unwell. - Use of insulin or medicines that stimulate insulin release, which can increase the risk of low blood sugar. Children aged 10 years and older had a higher risk of low blood sugar regardless of insulin use. - Lower-limb infections or ulcers, which need monitoring and appropriate treatment because of the warning about lower-limb amputation. Jardiance may pose a risk to the fetus during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters. It is not recommended during breastfeeding.
