Before taking this medicine

Do not take vardenafil with nitrates, nitric oxide donors or guanylate cyclase stimulators such as riociguat. Do not use it if sexual activity is inadvisable because of your heart or circulation condition, if you have severe liver impairment (Child-Pugh C), or if you are on kidney dialysis. It is not indicated for children. Avoid vardenafil if you have congenital QT syndrome or take class IA or III antiarrhythmic medicines for heart rhythm problems. Taking it with alpha-blockers requires caution because the combination can cause a significant drop in blood pressure and fainting. If you have previously had nonarteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION), an eye condition, vardenafil should be used cautiously and only if the expected benefits outweigh the risks. A “crowded” optic disc may also increase this risk. The label states that the tablets contain phenylalanine, which is relevant to people with phenylketonuria. Stop taking vardenafil and seek medical attention if you develop sudden vision loss in one or both eyes, or a sudden decrease or loss of hearing. Seek immediate medical help if an erection lasts more than 4 hours.
