Before taking this medicine

Do not take Lexiva if you have had a clinically significant allergic reaction, including Stevens–Johnson syndrome, to fosamprenavir, any ingredient in Lexiva, or amprenavir. Do not take Lexiva with alfuzosin, rifampin, dihydroergotamine, ergonovine, ergotamine, methylergonovine, cisapride, St. John’s wort, lovastatin, simvastatin, pimozide, delavirdine, sildenafil used for pulmonary arterial hypertension (Revatio), midazolam or triazolam. These combinations may cause serious or life-threatening reactions or reduce antiviral effectiveness. If Lexiva is taken with ritonavir, flecainide and propafenone are also contraindicated, and ritonavir’s additional contraindications must be reviewed. Caution is needed if you have a sulfonamide allergy, hepatitis B or C, diabetes or hemophilia. Hepatitis B or C increases the risk of raised liver enzymes. New or worsening diabetes and high blood sugar can occur. People with hemophilia may develop spontaneous bleeding and may need additional factor VIII. Lexiva must be stopped if a severe skin reaction develops, including Stevens–Johnson syndrome. Other reported risks include immune reconstitution syndrome, changes in body fat distribution, increased cholesterol and triglycerides, and kidney stones. Cholesterol and triglycerides should be checked before treatment and periodically during treatment. Acute hemolytic anemia, a condition involving the rapid breakdown of red blood cells, has been reported with amprenavir.
