Before taking this medicine

Do not take Natazia if you have: • A high risk of blood clots, including a current or past blood clot in the legs or lungs, disease affecting blood vessels in the brain, coronary artery disease, certain heart valve or heart rhythm disorders that promote clotting, or an inherited or acquired blood-clotting disorder. • Uncontrolled high blood pressure, or diabetes with blood vessel disease. • Headaches with symptoms affecting a specific area of the nervous system, or migraines with or without aura if you are over 35. • Abnormal uterine bleeding whose cause has not been diagnosed. • Current or previous breast cancer. • Liver disease or liver tumors, whether cancerous or noncancerous. Do not take Natazia if you smoke and are over 35. It should also not be prescribed if you have high blood pressure with blood vessel disease. Tell your prescriber about planned major surgery or a recent delivery, as Natazia must be stopped around major surgery and must not be started too soon after childbirth. Stop Natazia if a blood clot occurs or you develop jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes). If you have diabetes or prediabetes, monitoring is needed. An alternative contraceptive should be considered if blood fat levels are uncontrolled. Significant changes in headaches, irregular uterine bleeding or absent periods need medical evaluation. Natazia should not be chosen as an oral contraceptive if you take strong CYP3A4-inducing medicines or supplements, such as carbamazepine, phenytoin, rifampicin or St. John’s wort, because they may reduce its contraceptive effectiveness. Natazia can reduce milk production during breastfeeding. Its safety and effectiveness have not been evaluated in women with a body mass index (BMI) above 30 kg/m².
