QT Prolongation and Drug Interactions Leading to QT Prolongation
Co-administration of the following drugs with ketoconazole is contraindicated: dofetilide, quinidine, pimozide, lurasidone, cisapride, methadone, disopyramide, dronedarone, ranolazine. Ketoconazole can cause elevated plasma concentrations of these drugs and may prolong QT intervals, sometimes resulting in life-threatening ventricular dysrhythmias such as torsades de pointes. See

About Nizoral
Overview
Ketoconazole tablets are an oral antifungal medicine. They treat certain systemic fungal infections: blastomycosis, coccidioidomycosis, histoplasmosis, chromomycosis and paracoccidioidomycosis. They are reserved for patients whose other treatments have failed or cannot be tolerated, when the potential benefits outweigh the risks. These tablets are not indicated for fungal nail infections, dermatophyte skin infections or Candida infections, and should not be used for fungal meningitis.
What it treats
Ketoconazole tablets are used for these systemic fungal infections when other effective antifungal treatments have failed, are unavailable or cannot be tolerated, and the potential benefits outweigh the risks: - Blastomycosis - Coccidioidomycosis - Histoplasmosis - Chromomycosis - Paracoccidioidomycosis The tablets are not indicated for fungal nail infections, dermatophyte skin infections or Candida infections, and should not be used for fungal meningitis.

Interactions
Ketoconazole tablets can increase the levels of certain medicines in the blood, causing serious side effects, including potentially fatal abnormal heart rhythms. Do not take ketoconazole tablets with dofetilide, quinidine, cisapride, pimozide, methadone, disopyramide, dronedarone, lurasidone, irinotecan, felodipine, nisoldipine, ranolazine, tolvaptan, eplerenone or colchicine. Other combinations that must not be used include: • Oral midazolam, oral triazolam or alprazolam, because their sedative effects can become stronger and last longer. • Simvastatin or lovastatin, because of the risk of muscle damage. • Ergot medicines, including dihydroergotamine, ergometrine, ergotamine and methylergometrine, because of the risk of ergot toxicity. Tell your doctor if you take any of these medicines before starting ketoconazole tablets.

Dosing

Storage
Store below 25°C with the cap closed, away from direct light and heat. Do not freeze. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
