About Ranexa
Overview
Ranexa contains ranolazine and comes as an extended-release tablet. It is used to treat chronic angina. The exact way it works is not known, but its effects against angina do not depend on lowering heart rate or blood pressure.

Side effects
Common side effects of Ranexa (ranolazine) include dizziness, headache, constipation and nausea. Serious risks include QT interval prolongation, a change in the heart’s electrical activity, and acute kidney failure. Contact your doctor if you are told you have either of these problems. Ranexa must be stopped if acute kidney failure develops. Patients with moderate to severe kidney impairment need kidney function monitoring after starting treatment and periodically during treatment.
Before taking this medicine
Do not take Ranexa if you have liver cirrhosis or take strong CYP3A inhibitors, such as ketoconazole, clarithromycin or nelfinavir, or CYP3A inducers, such as rifampin, phenobarbital or St. John’s wort. Ranexa can prolong the QT interval, a change in the heart’s electrical activity. Caution is needed if you take other medicines that prolong the QT interval, have known QT prolongation, have a personal or family history of long QT syndrome, or have certain potassium channel variants linked to QT prolongation. Information on use in these situations is limited. If you have moderate to severe kidney impairment, kidney function should be checked after starting treatment and periodically thereafter. Ranexa must be stopped if acute kidney failure develops.
Interactions
Tell your doctor if you take any of the following, as your prescribed doses may need to change when used with Ranexa: - Diltiazem, verapamil or erythromycin. - Cyclosporine, which can increase the amount of ranolazine in your body. - Simvastatin or lovastatin. - Tacrolimus or sirolimus. - Metformin. - Digoxin. - Tricyclic antidepressants. Cyclosporine itself may also need a dose adjustment. Your prescriber will decide whether any changes are needed.

Storage
Store below 25°C in a dry place, in the original pack, away from direct light and moisture. Do not keep it in a bathroom. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
