Before taking this medicine

Do not take Rexulti if you have a known allergy to brexpiprazole or any of its ingredients. Allergic reactions have included rash, hives, facial swelling and anaphylaxis, a severe allergic reaction. Conditions requiring caution or monitoring include: • Dementia-related psychosis in older adults, because of an increased risk of stroke or transient ischaemic attack (TIA). • Diabetes or high blood sugar, abnormal blood fats, or weight gain. These should be monitored during treatment. • A low white blood cell count or a history of low white blood cells. Blood count monitoring may be needed. • Heart or blood vessel disease, dehydration, or a risk of fainting. Rexulti can cause a fall in blood pressure on standing; heart rate and blood pressure may need monitoring. • A history of seizures or conditions that increase seizure risk. • Pregnancy, particularly exposure during the third trimester, which may cause movement-related or withdrawal symptoms in the newborn. Other important risks include neuroleptic malignant syndrome, tardive dyskinesia (involuntary movements), and compulsive behaviours such as pathological gambling. These may require the prescriber to stop treatment. Use caution when operating machinery because Rexulti may impair thinking and movement.
