About Tubersol
Overview
Tubersol contains tuberculin purified protein derivative and is used for a skin test to help diagnose tuberculosis (TB) infection in people at increased risk of developing active TB disease. It is a diagnostic test, not a treatment for TB. When injected into the skin, it can trigger a local immune reaction in people previously sensitized by mycobacterial infection or BCG vaccination.

Side effects
Hardening at the Tubersol injection site (induration) is the expected reaction when the skin test is positive.
Before taking this medicine
Tubersol should not be given to anyone who: - Is allergic to any of its components or has had an allergic reaction, including anaphylaxis, to a previous tuberculin PPD test. - Has had a severe reaction to a previous tuberculin skin test, such as tissue death, blistering, anaphylactic shock or skin ulcers. - Has documented active tuberculosis (TB) or a clear history of treatment for TB infection or disease. - Has extensive burns or eczema.
Interactions
Tell your doctor if you are taking corticosteroids or medicines that suppress the immune system, as these may reduce or suppress your reaction to the Tubersol test. Live virus vaccines, including measles, mumps, rubella, oral polio, yellow fever and varicella, may temporarily reduce the test reaction. Tell your doctor about any recent vaccinations. After a recent injected live vaccine, tuberculin testing should be delayed for more than one month. If both are needed at the same time, the label recommends giving Tubersol and the injected live vaccine at separate sites during the same visit.

Dosing
Dosing is set by your prescriber. Each health care professional may prescribe medication differently according to a patient's medical history and condition, so follow the directions on your prescription label and speak to your doctor or pharmacist before changing anything.
Storage
Store in the original carton below 25°C, protected from light, unless the pack states refrigeration. Do not freeze. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
