About Vitamin D Drops
What it treats
Maintaining vitamin D intake where sun exposure is limited, in exclusively breastfed infants, in older adults, in people with darker skin living at higher latitudes, and where a blood test has shown a low level.
Safety information
Side effects
At normal supplement doses, side effects are unusual. Sustained high doses can raise blood calcium, which shows up as nausea, constipation, thirst, frequent urination, and tiredness.
Before taking this medicine
Do not take extra vitamin D if you have high blood calcium, kidney stones related to calcium, sarcoidosis, or severe kidney impairment, unless a doctor is supervising it. Do not exceed the labelled dose.
Interactions
Thiazide diuretics, calcium supplements and some antacids add to the calcium-raising effect. Orlistat, cholestyramine and long-term corticosteroids or anticonvulsants can reduce how much vitamin D you absorb or how well it works.
