Before taking this medicine

Do not take Vraylar if you have had an allergic reaction to cariprazine. Reported reactions include rash, itching, hives, and swelling of the tongue, lips, face or throat. Conditions requiring caution or monitoring include: • Dementia-related psychosis in older adults, because of an increased risk of stroke or transient ischemic attack. • Diabetes or high blood sugar, abnormal blood fats, or weight gain. • Low white blood cell counts or a history of low white blood cells; blood counts should be monitored. • Heart or blood vessel disease, a history of stroke, dehydration, or a risk of fainting; heart rate and blood pressure should be monitored. • A history of seizures or conditions that increase seizure risk. • Pregnancy, because animal studies suggest a risk of harm to the unborn baby. Vraylar can cause neuroleptic malignant syndrome, which requires immediate discontinuation and close monitoring, and tardive dyskinesia, which may require discontinuation. Side effects may appear late, so monitoring is needed for several weeks after starting treatment and after each dose change. Use caution when operating machinery because Vraylar may impair thinking and movement.
