Xadago

Before taking this medicine

Do not take Xadago if you have had an allergic reaction to safinamide or have severe liver impairment. Reported allergic reactions include swelling of the tongue or lining of the mouth and difficulty breathing. Do not take Xadago with: • Other monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or medicines that strongly inhibit monoamine oxidase, including linezolid. These combinations can cause dangerously high blood pressure. • Opioid medicines, including meperidine and related medicines, methadone, propoxyphene or tramadol; SNRI, tricyclic, tetracyclic or triazolopyridine antidepressants; cyclobenzaprine; methylphenidate, amphetamine or their derivatives; or St John’s wort. These combinations can cause life-threatening serotonin syndrome. • Dextromethorphan, because combining it with MAOIs has been associated with psychosis or abnormal behaviour. Xadago may cause or worsen high blood pressure and uncontrolled movements (dyskinesia). It may also cause falling asleep during everyday activities, hallucinations, psychotic behaviour, or problems controlling impulses and compulsive behaviours. Withdrawal may cause very high fever and confusion. If you are pregnant or planning a pregnancy, discuss this with your prescriber. Animal studies suggest Xadago may harm an unborn baby.
