About Accupril
Overview
Accupril is a prescription tablet containing quinapril, an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor. It is used to treat high blood pressure, either alone or with a thiazide diuretic. It is also used for heart failure as an addition to treatment with diuretics and/or digitalis. It works by blocking the action of ACE, an enzyme involved in blood pressure control.
What it treats
- High blood pressure (hypertension), alone or with thiazide diuretics. - Heart failure, as an add-on to conventional treatment including diuretics and/or digitalis.
Safety information
Side effects
Commonly reported side effects include headache, dizziness, tiredness, cough, nausea or vomiting, and abdominal pain. In heart failure trials, reported side effects also included low blood pressure, chest pain, shortness of breath, diarrhoea, muscle or back pain, and rash. Stop taking quinapril and seek immediate medical care if swelling of the face, lips, tongue, throat, arms or legs occurs. This may be angioedema; swelling involving the throat can be fatal. Other serious reported effects that warrant prompt medical attention include severe allergic reactions, fainting, chest pain, abnormal heart rhythms, heart attack, stroke, new or worsening heart failure, gastrointestinal bleeding, pancreatitis, hepatitis, severe skin reactions, and new or worsening kidney failure. High potassium, low sodium, and blood disorders affecting red cells, white cells or platelets have also been reported. Blood tests may show changes in kidney or liver function. Increases in kidney blood-test values were more likely in people also taking diuretics.

Before taking this medicine
Do not take Accupril (quinapril) if you are allergic to quinapril or any ingredient in the product, or if you have previously had angioedema (swelling beneath the skin) related to treatment with an ACE inhibitor. Do not take quinapril with a neprilysin inhibitor, such as sacubitril. Allow at least 36 hours between stopping sacubitril/valsartan and starting quinapril, or stopping quinapril and starting sacubitril/valsartan. If you have diabetes, do not take quinapril with aliskiren.

Storage
Store below 25°C in a dry place, in the original pack, away from direct light and moisture. Do not keep it in a bathroom. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
