About Anoro Ellipta
Overview
Anoro Ellipta is a prescription inhaler containing umeclidinium and vilanterol. It is used for the long-term maintenance treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The two ingredients work in different ways to relax the muscles around the airways, helping keep them open and making breathing easier. It is not a rescue inhaler for sudden breathing problems.
What it treats
Maintenance treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in adults, including chronic bronchitis and emphysema.
Safety information
Side effects
Common side effects include cough, sore throat, headache, constipation and nose or sinus infections. Seek urgent medical help if breathing suddenly worsens after using the inhaler, or if you develop signs of a severe allergic reaction, such as swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat, difficulty breathing or widespread hives. Contact a doctor promptly if you develop: • A fast or irregular heartbeat, palpitations or chest pain. • Eye pain or redness, blurred vision or coloured halos around lights, which may indicate increased pressure in the eye. • Difficulty passing urine or painful urination. • Muscle weakness or cramps, which may indicate low blood potassium. Anoro Ellipta can also raise blood sugar levels, which may affect diabetes control.
When to call your doctor
If symptoms are severe or getting worse quickly, seek emergency care rather than waiting.
Before taking this medicine
Do not use Anoro Ellipta if you are allergic to umeclidinium, vilanterol or any other ingredient, or if you have a severe allergy to milk proteins. It should not be used to treat asthma or to relieve sudden breathing problems. Tell your prescriber if you have heart disease, an irregular heartbeat, high blood pressure, seizures, an overactive thyroid, diabetes, narrow-angle glaucoma or difficulty passing urine, including problems caused by an enlarged prostate or bladder outlet obstruction. These conditions require caution. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, discuss treatment with your prescriber before use.
Interactions
Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all medicines, vitamins and herbal supplements you use. Important interactions include: • Other long-acting beta agonists or anticholinergic medicines, including some inhalers and bladder medicines, which can increase side effects. • Beta blockers, including some eye drops, which may reduce the effect of vilanterol and worsen breathing. • Strong CYP3A4 inhibitors, such as ketoconazole, itraconazole, clarithromycin and ritonavir, which can increase exposure to vilanterol and the risk of side effects. • Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), tricyclic antidepressants and medicines that prolong the heart’s QT interval, which may increase the risk of heart rhythm problems. Mention recently stopped antidepressants as well. • Diuretics (“water pills”) that lower potassium, which may increase the risk of low potassium and heart rhythm changes. Do not stop prescribed medicines without medical advice.

Dosing
Dosing is set by your prescriber. Each health care professional may prescribe medication differently according to a patient's medical history and condition, so follow the directions on your prescription label and speak to your doctor or pharmacist before changing anything.
Storage
Store below 25°C away from direct heat and sunlight. Do not pierce or burn the device, even when it is empty. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
