FDA boxed warningNeurologic adverse reactions
Severe neurologic adverse reactions have been reported with the use of ARRANON ®. These adverse reactions have included altered mental states including severe somnolence, central nervous system effects including convulsions, and peripheral neuropathy ranging from numbness and paresthesias to motor weakness and paralysis. There have also been reports of adverse reactions associated with demyelination, and ascending peripheral neuropathies similar in appearance to Guillain-Barré syndrome.
Full recovery from these adverse reactions has not always occurred with cessation of therapy with ARRANON. Monitor frequently for signs and symptoms of neurologic toxicity during treatment with ARRANON. Discontinue ARRANON for neurologic adverse reactions of NCI Common Toxicity Criteria for Adverse Events (CTCAE) Grade 2 or greater.
Full recovery from these adverse reactions has not always occurred with cessation of therapy with ARRANON. Monitor frequently for signs and symptoms of neurologic toxicity. Discontinue ARRANON for neurologic adverse reactions of NCI Common Toxicity Criteria for Adverse Events (CTCAE) Grade 2 or greater.
About Arranon
Overview
Arranon contains nelarabine, a cancer medicine given by intravenous infusion. It treats T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL) and T-cell lymphoblastic lymphoma (T-LBL) in adults and children aged 1 year and older whose disease has not responded to, or has returned after, at least two chemotherapy regimens. The body converts nelarabine into an active substance that interferes with DNA production in leukemia cells, leading to cell death.
What it treats
- T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL) - T-cell lymphoblastic lymphoma (T-LBL) For adults and children aged 1 year and older whose disease has not responded to, or has returned after, at least two chemotherapy regimens.
Safety information
Side effects
Common side effects in adults include low red blood cells (anemia), low platelets, low neutrophils (a type of white blood cell), nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, constipation, tiredness, fever, cough and shortness of breath. Common side effects in children include anemia and low neutrophil, platelet and overall white blood cell counts. Common nervous system side effects in adults include sleepiness, dizziness, headache, reduced sensation, tingling and problems with peripheral nerves. In children, headache and peripheral nerve problems are common. Serious side effects include severe nervous system reactions, blood cell disorders and tumor lysis syndrome. Contact your doctor promptly if you develop new or worsening nervous system symptoms. Blood counts, including platelets, should be monitored regularly. Arranon can harm an unborn baby. Contact your doctor if you become pregnant during treatment. Women who could become pregnant should use effective contraception, and men should use condoms. Do not drive or use machinery while sleepy; wait until the sleepiness has resolved.

Interactions
Tell your doctor if you take pentostatin or another adenosine deaminase (ADA) inhibitor. Combining Arranon (nelarabine) with these medicines is not recommended.

Storage
