About Beconase

Overview

Beconase is a nasal spray containing beclomethasone dipropionate, a corticosteroid. It is used to relieve symptoms of seasonal or year-round allergic rhinitis and nonallergic (vasomotor) rhinitis. It is also used to help prevent nasal polyps from returning after surgical removal. It works by reducing inflammation in the nose.

Safety information

Side effects

Reported side effects include irritation or dryness of the nose and throat, sneezing just after use, headache, nausea, lightheadedness, a blocked or runny nose, nosebleeds, watery eyes, and an unpleasant taste or smell. Mild nose and throat irritation was reported in up to 24% of patients; temporary irritation and sneezing occurred at similar rates with placebo. Contact a doctor if you develop sores inside the nose, loss of taste or smell, wheezing, or vision changes. Rare reports include a hole in the nasal septum (the wall between the nostrils), cataracts, glaucoma, and increased pressure inside the eye. Growth suppression has also been reported in children using nasal corticosteroids, including Beconase. Seek urgent medical help for signs of a severe allergic reaction, such as hives, swelling, or difficulty breathing. Rare immediate and delayed allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis, rash, and narrowing of the airways, have been reported.

When to call your doctor

- Seek immediate medical attention for wheezing or trouble breathing. - Get urgent medical help for swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat, or hives with swelling or breathing problems.

If symptoms are severe or getting worse quickly, seek emergency care rather than waiting.

Do not use Beconase if you are allergic to beclomethasone dipropionate or any of its other ingredients.

Storage

Store below 25°C upright, away from direct light. Do not freeze. Follow the in-use period printed on the pack once it is opened. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
