About Cardura
Overview
Cardura is a prescription tablet containing doxazosin, an alpha-1 blocker. It is used to treat the signs and symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and high blood pressure. It works by selectively blocking receptors called alpha-1 adrenergic receptors.

Safety information
Side effects
Commonly reported side effects include tiredness, feeling generally unwell, low blood pressure and dizziness. Contact a doctor if you develop low blood pressure when standing up, which may occur with or without fainting. Cardura can also cause a complication during cataract surgery called intraoperative floppy iris syndrome. Tell your eye surgeon that you take Cardura before cataract surgery.
When to call your doctor
If symptoms are severe or getting worse quickly, seek emergency care rather than waiting.
Before taking this medicine
Do not take Cardura if you are allergic to doxazosin, other quinazolines such as prazosin or terazosin, or any ingredient in Cardura. Cardura may cause a drop in blood pressure on standing, with or without fainting. If you have liver impairment, monitoring for low blood pressure is needed. Tell your eye surgeon if you take Cardura, as it can cause intraoperative floppy iris syndrome, a complication during cataract surgery. Before treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), and at regular intervals afterwards, screening for prostate cancer is needed.
Interactions
Strong CYP3A inhibitors can increase the amount of doxazosin in the body and the risk of low blood pressure. Taking Cardura with a phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE-5) inhibitor can further lower blood pressure and cause symptoms of low blood pressure. Tell your doctor if you take either type of medicine. Also mention cimetidine, which slightly increased doxazosin exposure in a study of healthy volunteers. Data on medicines that affect doxazosin’s breakdown in the liver are limited.

Storage
Store below 25°C in a dry place, in the original pack, away from direct light and moisture. Do not keep it in a bathroom. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
