About Combigan
Overview
Combigan is a prescription eye drop solution containing brimonidine tartrate and timolol. It is used to lower raised pressure inside the eye in people with glaucoma or ocular hypertension who need an additional or replacement treatment because their eye pressure is not adequately controlled. Both ingredients lower eye pressure, with brimonidine reducing fluid production inside the eye and helping fluid drain out.

Safety information
Side effects
Common side effects, reported in approximately 5–15% of patients, include allergic inflammation of the eye lining, small bumps on the eye lining, eye redness, itching, burning and stinging. Contact a doctor if you develop breathing problems or worsening asthma, signs of heart failure, worsening circulation problems, increased allergic reactions or worsening muscle weakness. Combigan may worsen obstructive lung disease. It can also mask symptoms of low blood sugar in people with diabetes and signs of an overactive thyroid.
When to call your doctor
If symptoms are severe or getting worse quickly, seek emergency care rather than waiting.
Before taking this medicine
Do not use Combigan if you have asthma or a history of asthma, severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), a slow heartbeat due to sinus bradycardia, second- or third-degree heart block, overt heart failure, cardiogenic shock, or an allergy to any ingredient. It must not be used in children under 2 years old. Caution is needed in people with obstructive lung disease, poor circulation, increased sensitivity to allergens, muscle weakness, diabetes or an overactive thyroid. Combigan may worsen breathing problems, heart failure, poor circulation or muscle weakness, and may increase reactions to allergens. It may also mask signs of low blood sugar in people with diabetes and signs of an overactive thyroid.
Interactions
Tell your doctor about all medicines you take, especially: - Blood-pressure medicines and cardiac glycosides: using them with Combigan may lower blood pressure. - Beta-blockers taken by mouth or otherwise acting throughout the body, and CYP2D6 inhibitors: these may increase beta-blocker effects throughout the body. - Calcium antagonists taken by mouth or given intravenously: these may cause problems with the heart’s electrical signals, failure of the heart’s left pumping chamber, or low blood pressure. - Catecholamine-depleting medicines: combined effects may cause low blood pressure or a markedly slow heartbeat. - Medicines that slow central nervous system activity: their effects may be increased. - Digitalis and calcium antagonists: combined effects may further slow electrical signals through the heart. - Tricyclic antidepressants: the label notes that these may reduce the blood-pressure-lowering effect of systemic clonidine. - Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs): these may increase blood-pressure lowering.
Using Combigan
Dosing

Storage
Store below 25°C away from direct light. Once opened, follow the in-use period printed on the pack and do not let the dropper touch the eye or any surface. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
