About Trusopt
Overview
Trusopt is a prescription eye drop medicine containing dorzolamide. It is used to lower raised pressure inside the eye in people with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. It works by reducing the amount of fluid produced inside the eye, which helps lower the pressure.

Safety information
Side effects
Common side effects include burning or stinging in the eye, eye discomfort, blurred vision and a bitter taste after using the drops. Contact a doctor promptly if you develop eye pain, persistent redness or irritation, swelling of the eyelids, or worsening vision. Dorzolamide can cause serious allergic reactions, including severe skin reactions. Seek immediate medical help for difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat, or a severe rash with blistering, peeling skin or sores in the mouth.

If symptoms are severe or getting worse quickly, seek emergency care rather than waiting.
Before taking this medicine
Trusopt should not be used by anyone allergic to dorzolamide or any of its ingredients. It should not be used in people with severe kidney impairment or hyperchloraemic acidosis, a condition involving excess acidity in the blood. Dorzolamide is a sulfonamide and can cause serious allergic reactions despite being applied to the eye. A history of sulfonamide allergy requires careful assessment. Stop using it and seek urgent medical help if signs of a serious allergic reaction develop. Medical review is needed before use in people with liver impairment, a history of kidney stones, corneal disease or previous eye surgery. Taking an oral carbonic anhydrase inhibitor alongside Trusopt is generally not recommended because side effects may add up. Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding requires assessment by the prescriber.
Interactions
Tell your doctor if you take an oral carbonic anhydrase inhibitor, such as acetazolamide. Combining it with Trusopt is generally not recommended because their effects can add together. Also mention high-dose aspirin or other salicylates, which may increase the risk of problems with the body’s acid–base balance. Review all other medicines, eye drops and supplements with your doctor before combining them with Trusopt.

Storage
Store below 25°C away from direct light. Once opened, follow the in-use period printed on the pack and do not let the dropper touch the eye or any surface. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
