About Cyclogyl
Overview
Cyclogyl is a prescription eye drop solution containing cyclopentolate hydrochloride. It is used to widen the pupil and temporarily stop the eye from adjusting its focus. It works by blocking certain nerve signals that control pupil size and focusing.
What it treats
- Dilation of the pupil (mydriasis). - Temporary relaxation of the eye’s focusing muscles (cycloplegia).
Safety information
Side effects
Reported eye side effects include burning, irritation, redness, sensitivity to light and blurred vision. Inflammation of the eye surface or eyelids can also occur. The label does not state how often these effects occur. Other possible effects include skin rash, unusual drowsiness, reduced saliva and sweating, reduced secretions in the nose, throat and airways, slowed bowel activity and abdominal swelling in infants. Contact a doctor promptly for increased pressure inside the eye, inflammation affecting the cornea, abnormal adhesions within the eye, a fast heartbeat, difficulty passing urine or a very high body temperature. Widening of blood vessels has also been reported. Serious nervous system and behavioural reactions have been reported, usually in children. These include poor coordination, incoherent speech, restlessness, hyperactivity, hallucinations, confusion about time or place, failure to recognise people and seizures. Seek urgent medical help if these occur. Severe toxic reactions can cause coma, paralysis or death.

If symptoms are severe or getting worse quickly, seek emergency care rather than waiting.
Before taking this medicine
Do not use Cyclogyl if you are allergic to cyclopentolate or any other ingredient in the preparation.
Interactions
Cyclogyl may reduce the eye-pressure-lowering effect of carbachol, pilocarpine or cholinesterase inhibitors used in the eye. Tell your doctor if you use any of these medicines.
Using Cyclogyl
Dosing

Storage
Store below 25°C away from direct light. Once opened, follow the in-use period printed on the pack and do not let the dropper touch the eye or any surface. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
