About NovoEight
Overview
NovoEight contains antihemophilic factor (recombinant), a laboratory-made version of human clotting factor VIII. It is used in adults and children with hemophilia A to treat and control bleeding, manage bleeding around surgery, and help reduce the frequency of bleeding episodes. It works by temporarily replacing the missing factor VIII needed for blood to clot effectively. NovoEight is not indicated for treating von Willebrand disease.

Safety information
Side effects
Common side effects include injection site reactions and fever. In patients who have not previously been treated, development of inhibitors (antibodies that block factor VIII activity) was also among the most frequently reported side effects. Serious allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis, can occur. Trace amounts of hamster proteins in NovoEight may cause allergic reactions. Stop using NovoEight and seek immediate medical attention if symptoms of a severe allergic reaction occur. Contact your doctor if bleeding is not controlled. Inhibitors may reduce NovoEight’s effect, and your doctor may need to test for them.
When to call your doctor
If symptoms are severe or getting worse quickly, seek emergency care rather than waiting.
Before taking this medicine
Do not use NovoEight if you have had a life-threatening allergic reaction, including anaphylaxis, to NovoEight or any of its components, including traces of hamster proteins. Severe allergic reactions can occur. If symptoms develop, stop using NovoEight and seek immediate medical attention. Antibodies called inhibitors may develop and reduce factor VIII activity. If expected factor VIII levels are not reached or bleeding is not controlled, testing for inhibitors is needed. Children clear NovoEight more quickly relative to body weight. Adults with a BMI of 30 or higher clear it more slowly and have greater overall exposure. These differences require the prescriber’s consideration.

Dosing
Dosing is set by your prescriber. Each health care professional may prescribe medication differently according to a patient's medical history and condition, so follow the directions on your prescription label and speak to your doctor or pharmacist before changing anything.
Storage
Store in the original carton below 25°C, protected from light, unless the pack states refrigeration. Do not freeze. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
