About Odactra
Overview
Odactra is a tablet that dissolves under the tongue and contains extracts from two types of house dust mite. It treats house dust mite–induced nasal allergies, with or without eye allergies, in people aged 5 to 65 whose allergy is confirmed by blood or skin testing. It is an allergen immunotherapy, although exactly how this treatment works is not fully understood. Odactra is not intended for immediate relief of allergy symptoms.
What it treats
- House dust mite–induced allergic rhinitis (nasal allergies), with or without allergic conjunctivitis (eye allergies), in people aged 5 to 65 years, confirmed by a positive blood IgE or skin test. Used as allergen immunotherapy, not for immediate relief of allergy symptoms.
Safety information
Side effects
Common side effects include itching in the mouth or ears, throat irritation or tickling, stomach pain, nausea, tongue pain, mouth sores, and swelling of the lips, tongue or back of the mouth. Throat swelling and tongue sores were also commonly reported in adults and adolescents. Changes in taste were common in adults and children aged 5–11; diarrhea was common in adolescents aged 12–17. Serious allergic reactions require immediate medical care. Stop taking Odactra and seek medical help immediately if signs or symptoms of a serious allergic reaction occur. If you develop inflammation or wounds in your mouth, stop treatment until your mouth has healed completely.

Before taking this medicine
Do not take Odactra if you have severe, unstable or uncontrolled asthma; have ever had a severe allergic reaction affecting the whole body; have had a severe local reaction to allergen immunotherapy taken under the tongue; have a history of eosinophilic esophagitis (inflammation of the food pipe); or are allergic to any inactive ingredient in the product. Stop treatment and seek immediate medical care if signs or symptoms of a serious allergic reaction occur. If you have inflammation or wounds in your mouth, stop treatment until your mouth has healed completely.

Dosing
Dosing is set by your prescriber. Each health care professional may prescribe medication differently according to a patient's medical history and condition, so follow the directions on your prescription label and speak to your doctor or pharmacist before changing anything.
Storage
Store below 25°C in a dry place, in the original pack, away from direct light and moisture. Do not keep it in a bathroom. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
