About Onpattro
Overview
Onpattro contains patisiran, a small interfering RNA medicine. It is used to treat polyneuropathy (damage to multiple nerves) caused by hereditary transthyretin-mediated amyloidosis in adults. It works by breaking down the genetic messages used to make transthyretin, reducing this protein in the blood and its deposits in tissues.

Safety information
Side effects
The most commonly reported side effects are upper respiratory tract infections and infusion-related reactions. Infusion-related reactions can be serious or life-threatening. Tell the healthcare team immediately if you develop symptoms during an infusion. The infusion may need to be slowed or interrupted, and must be stopped if a serious or life-threatening reaction occurs. Onpattro can also lower vitamin A levels in the blood. The label recommends vitamin A supplementation. Contact your doctor if you develop eye symptoms that could suggest vitamin A deficiency; referral to an eye specialist is recommended.
