About Pulmozyme

Overview

Pulmozyme (dornase alfa) is a prescription medicine supplied in ampoules for inhalation through a nebulizer. It is used alongside standard therapies to improve lung function in children and adults with cystic fibrosis. It contains an enzyme that breaks down DNA in airway mucus, making the mucus less thick and sticky.

What it treats

- Cystic fibrosis in children and adults, alongside standard therapies, to improve lung function. - In patients with cystic fibrosis whose forced vital capacity (FVC) is at least 40% of predicted, to reduce the risk of respiratory tract infections requiring injected antibiotics.

Side effects

Common side effects reported in clinical trials in people with cystic fibrosis include voice changes, sore throat, rash, inflammation of the voice box, chest pain, eye inflammation, nasal inflammation, fever, difficulty breathing and a decrease in lung function measured by forced vital capacity (FVC).

- Chest pain. - Difficulty breathing.
