About Revatio
Overview
Revatio tablets contain sildenafil, a medicine called a phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE-5) inhibitor. It treats pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH, WHO Group I) in adults to improve exercise ability and delay worsening of the condition. It is also used for PAH in children aged 1 to 17 to improve exercise ability or, in those too young for standard exercise testing, blood flow and pressure in the lungs thought to support exercise ability. It works by relaxing and widening blood vessels in the lungs.
What it treats
- Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH, WHO Group I) in adults, to improve exercise ability and delay worsening. - PAH (WHO Group I) in children aged 1–17 years, to improve exercise ability or, in those too young for standard exercise testing, blood flow and pressure in the lungs thought to support improved exercise ability.
Safety information
Side effects
Common side effects in adults include headache, indigestion, flushing, pain in the arms or legs, muscle pain, back pain and diarrhea. Serious side effects include low blood pressure, vision loss, hearing loss and a prolonged erection (priapism), which is also reported in children. Seek medical attention if you experience a sudden decrease or loss of vision or hearing. Contact a doctor promptly for a prolonged erection or symptoms of low blood pressure. Blood-pressure-lowering effects may be more common in people who already have low blood pressure or take medicines to lower it. Revatio may cause fluid buildup in the lungs in people with pulmonary veno-occlusive disease and is not recommended for them. It may also cause serious crises involving blocked blood vessels in people whose pulmonary hypertension is related to sickle cell disease. These serious effects require medical attention.

If symptoms are severe or getting worse quickly, seek emergency care rather than waiting.
Before taking this medicine
Do not take Revatio if you take organic nitrates in any form, even occasionally, or riociguat, because these combinations can increase the risk of low blood pressure. Do not take it if you have a known allergy to sildenafil or any ingredient in the tablets. Severe allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis, have been reported. Caution is needed if you have low blood pressure or take medicines to lower blood pressure. Revatio is not recommended for people with pulmonary veno-occlusive disease (PVOD), as it may cause fluid to build up in the lungs. In people with pulmonary hypertension caused by sickle cell disease, it may cause serious vaso-occlusive crises, where blood flow becomes blocked. Seek medical attention if you experience a sudden decrease or loss of vision or hearing.
Interactions
Do not take Revatio with nitrates in any form. Avoid taking it with Viagra or other PDE-5 inhibitors. Taking Revatio with strong CYP3A inhibitors is not recommended. Moderate-to-strong CYP3A inducers, such as bosentan, can lower sildenafil levels in the body. Tell your doctor if you start or stop these medicines, as your Revatio treatment may need adjustment.

Storage
Store below 25°C in a dry place, in the original pack, away from direct light and moisture. Do not keep it in a bathroom. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
