Zomig

Before taking this medicine

Do not take Zomig if you have: • Coronary artery disease, including angina or a previous heart attack, coronary artery spasms, or other significant cardiovascular disease. • Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome or heart rhythm disorders involving an extra electrical pathway in the heart. • A history of stroke, transient ischemic attack (TIA or “mini-stroke”), or hemiplegic or basilar migraine. • Peripheral vascular disease, reduced blood flow to the bowel (ischemic bowel disease), or uncontrolled high blood pressure. • A known allergy to Zomig. Do not take Zomig if you have used another triptan or an ergot-type medicine within the past 24 hours, or if you currently take an MAO-A inhibitor or have taken one within the past two weeks. A heart assessment is needed before use if you have multiple cardiovascular risk factors. Chest, throat, neck or jaw pain, tightness or pressure requires assessment for coronary artery disease in people at high risk, even though these symptoms are generally not related to reduced blood flow to the heart. Stop taking Zomig if a heart rhythm disturbance, stroke, bleeding in or around the brain, reduced blood flow to the bowel, peripheral blood vessel spasm or serotonin syndrome occurs. Overuse can cause medication-overuse headache and may require withdrawal of the overused medicine. If you are pregnant, discuss use with your prescriber: animal studies suggest Zomig may harm the unborn baby.
