About Bridion
Overview
Bridion contains sugammadex and is given into a vein. It is used in adults and children undergoing surgery to reverse the muscle-blocking effects of rocuronium or vecuronium. It works by binding to these medicines, reducing the amount available to keep blocking signals between nerves and muscles.
What it treats
Reversal of muscle relaxation caused by rocuronium or vecuronium in adults and children undergoing surgery.

Side effects
Common side effects in adults include vomiting, pain, nausea, low blood pressure and headache. In children aged 2 to under 17 years, common side effects include pain, vomiting and nausea. In children from birth to under 2 years, pain related to the procedure is the most common side effect. Serious reactions require immediate medical attention. These include severe allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis, and a very slow heartbeat, which can occur within minutes of administration and has sometimes led to cardiac arrest. Muscle-blocking effects may persist or return after treatment, affecting breathing. Breathing support and monitoring are required until adequate breathing and the ability to keep the airway open are restored.

Before taking this medicine
Bridion must not be used in anyone with a known allergy to sugammadex or any of its components. Allergic reactions can range from skin reactions to severe, life-threatening reactions, including anaphylaxis and anaphylactic shock, even in people who have never received sugammadex before. It is not recommended for people with severe kidney impairment. A very slow heart rate can occur within minutes of administration and has sometimes led to cardiac arrest. Healthcare staff must monitor for changes in heart rate and circulation and be prepared to treat serious allergic reactions. Breathing support is required until adequate breathing returns and the person can maintain a clear airway. Support may also be needed if muscle paralysis persists or returns. If another neuromuscular blocking medicine is needed after Bridion, the waiting time depends on the amount of Bridion given and the person’s kidney function.
Interactions
Toremifene may delay recovery when used with Bridion. Tell your doctor if you take toremifene or use hormonal contraception. If you use hormonal contraception, you must also use a non-hormonal method of contraception for 7 days after receiving Bridion.

Storage
Store in the original carton below 25°C, protected from light, unless the pack states refrigeration. Do not freeze. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
