About Engerix‑B
Overview
Engerix-B is a recombinant hepatitis B vaccine supplied in a vial for injection into a muscle. It is used to help protect against infection caused by all known subtypes of hepatitis B virus. It helps the body develop protective antibodies against a noninfectious surface protein of the virus.

Prevention of infection caused by all known subtypes of hepatitis B virus.
Safety information
Side effects
The most common side effects are soreness at the injection site (22%) and fatigue (14%). Fainting can occur after vaccination and may cause injury. Contact a doctor if fainting occurs. Pauses in breathing (apnea) have been observed after intramuscular vaccination in some infants born prematurely. Seek urgent medical help if this occurs.

If symptoms are severe or getting worse quickly, seek emergency care rather than waiting.
Before taking this medicine
Do not receive Engerix‑B if you have had a severe allergic reaction, including anaphylaxis, to any previous hepatitis B-containing vaccine or to any ingredient in Engerix‑B, including yeast. Conditions requiring caution include: • Fainting can occur with injectable vaccines. Precautions should be taken to prevent injury from a fall. • Vaccination should be temporarily deferred in infants with a birth weight below 2,000 g whose mothers test negative for hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg). • Pauses in breathing have been observed after intramuscular vaccination in some premature infants. The timing of vaccination should be based on the infant’s medical condition and the potential benefits and risks. • People older than 60 years may have a lower antibody response than younger adults.

Storage
Store in the original carton below 25°C, protected from light, unless the pack states refrigeration. Do not freeze. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
