Ocrevus

Before taking this medicine

Do not use Ocrevus if you have an active hepatitis B infection or have previously had a life-threatening infusion reaction to Ocrevus. Treatment must be delayed if you have an active infection, until it has resolved. Serious, life-threatening and fatal infections have occurred. Live or live-attenuated vaccines are not recommended during treatment or after stopping until B cells have recovered. Other important precautions include: • Infusion reactions: Ocrevus must be permanently stopped if a life-threatening or disabling reaction occurs. • Progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML): treatment must be withheld at the first sign or symptom suggesting PML. • Reduced immunoglobulins: levels must be monitored before, during and after treatment until B cells have recovered. Serious opportunistic infections, recurrent serious infections or prolonged low immunoglobulin levels requiring intravenous immunoglobulin treatment may require stopping Ocrevus. • Cancer: an increased risk, including breast cancer, may exist. • Immune-mediated colitis: new or persistent diarrhoea or other gastrointestinal symptoms need prompt evaluation if colitis is suspected. • Liver injury: liver blood tests are required before treatment and during treatment as clinically indicated. Ocrevus must be stopped if liver injury occurs without another explanation. • Pregnancy: based on animal data, Ocrevus may harm the unborn baby.
