About Vumerity
Overview
Vumerity contains diroximel fumarate and comes as delayed-release capsules taken by mouth. It treats relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis (MS) in adults, including clinically isolated syndrome, relapsing-remitting MS and active secondary progressive MS. Exactly how it works in MS is unknown, but its active breakdown product activates a pathway involved in how cells respond to oxidative stress.

Safety information
Side effects
Common side effects include flushing, abdominal pain, diarrhoea and nausea. These findings are based on dimethyl fumarate, which has the same active metabolite as Vumerity. Serious side effects that warrant prompt contact with a doctor include severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis and angioedema), progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML), shingles and other serious opportunistic infections, low lymphocyte counts, liver injury and serious gastrointestinal reactions. If anaphylaxis or angioedema occurs, stop Vumerity and do not restart it. Vumerity should be withheld at the first sign or symptom suggesting PML. Blood tests are needed before and during treatment to check lymphocyte counts and liver function.

If symptoms are severe or getting worse quickly, seek emergency care rather than waiting.
Before taking this medicine
Do not take Vumerity if you are allergic to diroximel fumarate, dimethyl fumarate or any of its other ingredients, or if you are taking dimethyl fumarate. Vumerity is not recommended for people with moderate or severe kidney impairment. Based on animal studies, it may harm an unborn baby. Serious allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis and swelling called angioedema, require stopping Vumerity and not restarting it. Treatment must be withheld at the first sign or symptom suggesting progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML), a serious brain infection. Shingles and other serious infections may require a treatment pause until the infection has resolved. Blood tests are needed before and during treatment to check lymphocyte counts and liver function. Persistently very low lymphocyte counts may require a treatment pause. Vumerity must be stopped if significant liver injury caused by the medicine is suspected.

Storage
Store below 25°C in a dry place, in the original pack, away from direct light and moisture. Do not keep it in a bathroom. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
