About SHINGRIX
Overview
SHINGRIX is a recombinant, adjuvanted vaccine given by injection to help prevent shingles in adults aged 50 years and older. It is also indicated for adults aged 18 years and older who are or will be at increased risk of shingles because of a weakened immune system caused by disease or treatment. It boosts the immune response to the virus that causes shingles, which is thought to explain its protective effect. SHINGRIX is not indicated to prevent chickenpox.
What it treats
• Prevention of shingles (herpes zoster) in adults aged 50 years and older. • Prevention of shingles in adults aged 18 years and older who are or will be at increased risk because of a weakened immune system caused by disease or treatment. SHINGRIX is not indicated to prevent chickenpox.
Safety information
Side effects
Common side effects include pain, redness or swelling at the injection site, muscle aches, tiredness, headache, shivering, fever and gastrointestinal symptoms. An increased risk of Guillain-Barré syndrome has been observed during the 42 days after SHINGRIX vaccination. Seek medical attention promptly if this condition is suspected. Fainting can also occur after vaccination and may lead to injury from falling; tell a healthcare professional immediately if you feel faint.

If symptoms are severe or getting worse quickly, seek emergency care rather than waiting.
Before taking this medicine
SHINGRIX must not be given to anyone who has had a severe allergic reaction, such as anaphylaxis, to any component of the vaccine or after a previous dose of SHINGRIX. An increased risk of Guillain-Barré syndrome has been observed in studies during the 42 days after vaccination with SHINGRIX. Fainting can also occur with injectable vaccines, including SHINGRIX. Precautions should be in place to prevent injury from falls and to restore blood flow to the brain if fainting occurs.

Dosing

Storage
Store in the original carton below 25°C, protected from light, unless the pack states refrigeration. Do not freeze. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
