About Colestid
Overview
Colestid contains colestipol hydrochloride, a cholesterol-lowering medicine taken by mouth. It is used alongside diet to lower high total and LDL cholesterol in people with primary hypercholesterolemia when diet alone has not been enough. It generally has no significant effect on triglyceride levels, but these may rise in some people.
What it treats
Primary hypercholesterolemia (high LDL cholesterol), used alongside diet to lower elevated total and LDL cholesterol when diet alone has not been adequate.

Before taking this medicine
Do not take Colestid if you are allergic to colestipol or any of its ingredients.
Interactions
Colestid can bind to other medicines taken by mouth, delaying or reducing their absorption. Discuss how to separate them with your doctor or pharmacist. Tell your doctor if you take: - Propranolol: monitoring is needed when Colestid is started or stopped. - Chlorothiazide, hydrochlorothiazide, furosemide, tetracycline, penicillin G or gemfibrozil: Colestid can reduce their absorption. - Digoxin or digitoxin: effects on absorption are uncertain, so particular caution is needed. - Oral phosphate supplements or hydrocortisone: absorption may be reduced. - Mycophenolate mofetil: Colestid may reduce exposure to its active substance and make it less effective. Check with your doctor before stopping Colestid. Stopping it can increase absorption of medicines it previously bound, potentially causing harm if their treatment had been adjusted while you were taking Colestid.

Storage
Store below 25°C in a dry place, in the original sachet until you use it, away from direct light and moisture. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
