About Nexletol
Overview
Nexletol contains bempedoic acid and is used to lower LDL (“bad”) cholesterol in adults with high cholesterol, including heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia. It is used alongside diet and exercise, with other LDL-lowering medicines or alone when those medicines cannot be used. It is also used to reduce the risk of cardiovascular death, heart attack, stroke or procedures to restore blood flow to the heart in adults at increased risk who cannot take recommended statin therapy. It works by blocking an enzyme called ACL, reducing cholesterol production in the liver and helping lower LDL cholesterol in the blood.
What it treats

Safety information
Side effects
Common side effects reported in trials include upper respiratory tract infections, bronchitis, muscle spasms, back pain, abdominal pain or discomfort, pain in the arms or legs, low red blood cell counts (anemia), increased liver enzymes, raised uric acid levels, reduced kidney function, gout and gallstones. Serious side effects include raised uric acid levels and tendon rupture. Contact your doctor if you develop signs or symptoms of high uric acid or gout. Your doctor may check your uric acid levels and prescribe treatment if needed. Stop taking Nexletol and contact your doctor immediately at the first sign of tendon rupture. Nexletol should be avoided in people with a history of tendon disorders or tendon rupture.

If symptoms are severe or getting worse quickly, seek emergency care rather than waiting.
Before taking this medicine
Do not take Nexletol if you have previously had a serious allergic reaction to bempedoic acid or any of its other ingredients. Serious allergic reactions, including angioedema (swelling under the skin), have occurred. Avoid Nexletol if you have a history of tendon disorders or tendon rupture. Stop taking it at the first sign of tendon rupture. Nexletol can raise blood uric acid levels. Your clinician may check these levels and monitor for symptoms; treatment to lower uric acid may be needed. Nexletol may harm an unborn baby if taken during pregnancy.
Interactions
Nexletol can increase blood levels of simvastatin and pravastatin, which may raise the risk of muscle damage. Tell your doctor if you take either medicine so they can review your treatment. Taking Nexletol with fibrates may increase triglycerides and lower HDL (“good”) cholesterol. Your doctor should check these levels four weeks after starting the combination and periodically afterwards. If these changes occur, your doctor may stop one of the medicines and monitor your levels until they return to baseline.

Storage
Store below 25°C in a dry place, in the original pack, away from direct light and moisture. Do not keep it in a bathroom. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
