About Repatha
Overview
Repatha (evolocumab) is a PCSK9 inhibitor given by injection under the skin using a prefilled pen. It is used to reduce the risk of major cardiovascular events, including heart attack and stroke, in adults at increased risk. Alongside diet and exercise, it lowers LDL (“bad”) cholesterol in adults with high cholesterol and in adults and children aged 10 years and older with heterozygous or homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia. It works by blocking a protein called PCSK9, helping the liver remove more LDL cholesterol from the blood.
What it treats
• To reduce the risk of cardiovascular death, heart attack, stroke, unstable angina requiring hospital care, or procedures to restore blood flow to the heart in adults at increased risk. • Alongside diet and exercise, to lower LDL cholesterol in adults with high cholesterol. • Alongside diet and exercise, to lower LDL cholesterol in adults and children aged 10 years and older with heterozygous or homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia.
Safety information
Side effects
Common side effects include cold-like symptoms (nasopharyngitis), upper respiratory tract infections, flu, back pain and reactions at the injection site. Diabetes mellitus was also reported as a common side effect in adults with established cardiovascular disease. Serious allergic reactions, including angioedema (swelling beneath the skin), have occurred. Stop using Repatha and seek immediate medical attention if signs or symptoms of a serious allergic reaction occur.

If symptoms are severe or getting worse quickly, seek emergency care rather than waiting.
Before taking this medicine
Do not use Repatha if you have ever had a serious allergic reaction to evolocumab or any of its other ingredients. Serious allergic reactions, including angioedema (swelling beneath the skin), have occurred with Repatha. If signs or symptoms of a serious allergic reaction occur, stop using Repatha and seek urgent medical care. Treatment and monitoring are needed until the symptoms resolve.

Storage
Store in the original carton to protect it from light. Check the pack for whether it must be refrigerated before first use and how long it may be kept at room temperature afterwards. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
